Camping and Caravanning Club site wins awards for public facilities

We’ve all been there, haven’t we? One too many glasses of vino or pints of ale, or perhaps a clumsy kid spilling orange juice all over your best white shirt. Your handy caravan might have a great washroom, but sometimes it’s nice to step out and head to your site or park’s public washroom – unless, that is, what awaits you can only be described as a World Health Organisation high alert area.

That’s why it really counts when caravan parks do the best they can to maintain public facilities such as washrooms to a high standard, and no caravan park has done better this year than the Loch Ness Shores Camping and Caravanning Club site. The Scottish campsite has been presented with two awards at the Loo of the Year Awards 2014 – yes, these do exist.

This annual competition recognises the best publicly accessible washrooms in the UK, and judges have awarded the Loch Ness Site the ‘Eco friendly Loo of the Year’, as well as ‘Holiday Park Loo of the Year’.

Nominees in each category are rigorously scrutinised for signage and communication, décor and maintenance, security and cleanliness. We’re not quite sure as to what the scrutiny quite involves, but we’re not even going to begin to think.

The site, which also focuses on conserving natural resources, received a Platinum grading from the Loo of the Year Awards and also has a 5-star VisitScotland accreditation.

Camping and Caravanning Club sites director, Bob Hill, commented on the awards, stating: “This is a great result for Loch Ness Shores. As a Club we are focused on raising standards in the provision of clean, hygienic and accessible toilets for our members and non-members alike.” He added: “Our teams work tirelessly to ensure that our campers have a memorable and hassle-free experience when they stay on a Club Site, and it’s fantastic that Donald and Lyn Forbes’ efforts have been recognised in these awards.”

Mike Bone, managing director of Loo of the Year Awards also shared his thoughts, commenting: “We have been very impressed with the high standards of cleaning and maintenance performed. The improvements in design and the quality of fixtures and fittings are also recognising user’s needs for attractive as well as functional facilities to meet all of their personal requirements.”

So the next time you’re caravanning in the Loch Ness area and have a really personal emergency, you literally know where to go.
