TRACKER technology leads police to stolen vehicle location within five hours

Police have been able to track down a stolen caravan in Clifton, near Preston, thanks to TRACKER technology.

Opportunist thieves managed to escape with a caravan from established dealership, Preston Caravans and Motorhomes last week, but got more than they bargained for thanks to tracking technology.

Using false number plates attached to their vehicle, the thieves managed to tow away a Twin-Axle Swift, worth £18,500, but what the dimwits didn’t realise was that the Swift was in fact fitted with a TRACKER unit that, upon movement, was promptly activated, which enabled the Lancashire and Greater Manchester police to tracing it and leading its officers to a location 36 miles far from Clifton, where the thieves were in hiding. The case was closed and the caravan was returned within in five hours.

Glen Campbell, Director of Preston Caravans and Motorhomes, commented: “It was a huge relief when the caravan was found and back at the dealership within five hours. If it wasn’t for the TRACKER unit, that caravan could have been lost for good. This incident has underlined the value of TRACKER’s technology and we’d recommend it to all of our customers, as a security solution that increases the chance of police recovering a stolen caravan.”

Andy Barrs Police Liaison Officer for TRACKER added, “TRACKER is the only SVR product that is used by the UK’s police forces and once again, this has proved valuable to helping police locate and return a stolen vehicle. This case highlights the value of TRACKER for dealerships, such as Preston Caravan and Motorhomes.”

Another great story which laughs in the face of thieving skulduggery – and a good lesson learned. With so much technology available to us these days, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Let us know what you think about tracking devices. Are these a necessity in this day and age?
