Caravan fans and off-roaders alike rejoice! The first Jeep-branded vehicle of 2013 is just a matter of weeks away from debuting, with plans afoot to showcase the new car at the New York motor show in the US.

This new addition will represent the first vehicle of its type to be developed by the Fiat-Chrysler alliance and could compete for market share with the likes of the Nissan X-Trail and Land Rover Freelander.

It will make its first official appearance the upcoming auto event which is scheduled to take place this March.

And while details of the new ride remain scarce, the new Jeep design is reportedly set to offer the standard four-wheel drive with a petrol V6 engine in the US edition while European drivers will be able to purchase a 3.2 litre version.

Design features include narrow headlights and a slimmer seven-bar grille.

The biggest talking point though will be the new nine-speed gearbox, which has already been christened the “the future of front-wheel drive and all-wheel-drive world of Chrysler,” by the company’s chief executive Sergio Marchionne.

Currently undergoing further testing, it would be advisable to keep an eye out for this one next month.
