Gloucestershire caravan site’s new facilities are a life-saver

Ranch Caravan Park is located near Evesham

The owner of a caravan park in Gloucestershire has made a surprise addition to the health and safety features at his 120-pitch site with a defibrillator now provided for emergency use.

Holidaymakers heading to the Ranch Caravan Park at Honeybourne near Evesham, will benefit from the new provision, with staff also undertaking training to prepare for an event where they will need to provide the first aid.

Steve Attridge, who runs the facility, purchased the defibrillator in a bid to boost on site safety, Tewkesbury Admag reports.

The device is capable of administering an electric shock to anyone in cardiac arrest, helping them to regain a steady heart rhythm.

This on-site addition could make a major difference, with most campsites located far from any professional medical help, which is required in such serious incidents.

“Having the machine on site, as well as the first aiders trained to use it, gives people extra confidence that we would be able to help if needed,” Mr Attridge told the news provider.

Figures produced by the UK ambulance service show that the average survival rate following cardiac arrests in the south west of England was 18.7 per cent in 2011, highlighting the importance of safety measures like this.
