In July 2013, Compass Caravans launched a brand new collection, built using Elddis’ pioneering ‘<' . strtolower('Array') href="/elddis/elddis-solid-construction.htm">Solid Construction process.
The reborn range includes three models, the entry-level Corona, the highly-specified Omega and the class-leading Rallye.
Each caravan is built on the popular Al-Ko chassis, with key specification differences at each level.
The classically-styled Compass Corona is designed to offer exceptional value for money and a range of family-friendly layouts.
Moving up the range and the Compass Omega features the year-round warmth of Alde heating, and the smoother towing experience provided by the Al-Ko ATC anti-snaking system.
And despite this, every model in this highly specified range comes with an MTPLM weight of less than 1,500kgs.
Topping off the revived collection is the Compass Rallye, which offers the utmost luxury for true caravan connoisseurs.
Key features on-board include a Sky-Scape sunroof, which lets natural light flood into the interior living space.
History and heritage
Compass is a historic caravan brand that was launched in 1979 by Siddle Cook, the man who gave his name to the original Elddis caravan.
Over the years, Compass made several popular caravan ranges, including the Echo, the Rallye, the Kensington and the Commodore, as well as a number of coachbuilt motorhomes, such as the Calypso and the Avantgarde.
The popularity of the Compass brand led to the foundation of The Compass Club, which has been running regular rallies ever since 1983.
In 1998, Compass became part of the County Durham-based Explorer Group, which also makes the Elddis and Buccaneer ranges at their site in Consett.
However, in 2009 the group ceased production of the Compass brand as the company rebranded as Elddis, dropping the make from its stable.
After two years of obscurity, the name was picked up by dealer chain Discover Leisure, who used it for their Elddis Crusader dealer special, which was known as the Compass Volante.
Sadly Discover Leisure fell into administration in October 2011, and so this historic brand was made obsolete once more.
But nearly two years later, the Compass name was revived and Elddis has now secured an extension dealer network to sell its new range.
