Caravanners have been offered advice on how to safely navigate bank holiday traffic while towing by GEM Motoring Assist.

The tips on road safety have been made as the country prepares for the August bank holiday weekend, which will see an increase in traffic on motorways as people look to make the most of the three-day break.

GEM offers breakdown cover for motors including caravans and motorhomes and has won a number of awards for the service it provides.

The organisation has reminded owners that when towing a caravan, the speed limit on motorways is 60mph, and that the right hand lane of a motorway cannot be used if there are three or more lanes.

The breakdown cover company has a number of tips on its website for travelling with a caravan such as packing, parking, weight limits and having the right tyres.

David Williams MBE, CEO of GEM Motoring Assist said: “Taking a bit of extra time to prepare your car and plan your journey will help to ease the stress of travelling this weekend.”

Caravan owners have also been advised to consider extended car door mirrors to see traffic behind you more easily.
