World’s fastest caravan towed across American desert at 140mph

The world's fastest caravan speeds through the desert

People will always try and break records. It is a natural human trait to want to be the best, and this has seen man accomplish many great things, and some truly bizarre feats as well.

An American company recently wrote their name in the history books in a highly unusual way – by breaking the world record for fastest speed achieved while towing a caravan.

The attempt was described by David Endres, Director of Operations for Carson Trailers, who provided the tourer as “definitely crazy”.

This continues the trend for attempting speeds never before attempted that was started by German company Goldschmitt, who broke the record for the fastest Motorhome earlier this year.

But this record was arguably even more impressive – Carson Trailers used a GMC 2500 HD that was modified to reach nearly 1,000bhp, almost the same as a Bugatti Veyron.

The caravan chosen for this crazy stunt was a Carson Kalispell, which had its tyres replaced to ensure they stood up to the extreme speeds, but was otherwise unchanged.

Inside this super-fast tourer was a toilet, a heater, a fridge – everything you would need for a comfortable holiday.

Jason Sands, the anxious driver admitted that they “did not talk about safety much” and was understandably very nervous before the run, despite the precautions taken by the team.

However the ride went perfectly with Sands quickly reaching speeds of 120 mph. A quick nitrous boost saw him cross the finish line at 141.998 mph earning him and the team a place in the Guinness Book of Records.

Despite the success David gave a final warning to others eager to break the record: “We don’t recommend towing the trailer faster than the recommended speed limit.”

The world record attempt can be viewed in the video below and we at CaravanTimes look forward to seeing the next set of brave people who are crazy enough to attempt to beat this record.
