Teenager in court over alleged caravan arson attack

Caravan fires can lead to serious injury or worse

by Tom Walsh

The case of a caravan fire in Cranmore, Somerset, has been adjourned until 15 April.

Eighteen-year-old Dominic Coates is accused of setting fire to two caravans parked near the East Somerset Railway.

The value of the mobile homes is not known, the Shepton Mallet Journal reports.

The teenager has been charged with committing arson in that he destroyed the caravans owned by the railway company.

Defending Mr Coates at Somerset Magistrates at Yeovil, solicitor Ray Peters asked for an adjournment as his client is said to be suffering from various mental health issues.

The trial has been put back until April while a psychiatric report is prepared.

The case is yet another warning to caravan owners in areas such as Somerset and Devon to be extra vigilant when they are parking their mobile home as they can be an easy target for any would-be thieves and criminals.
