Poll reveals Lake District as the top must see destination

Lake District and Cornwall, among others, form the top must see destinations in Great Britain

The Lake District comes in first in a ‘top must see’ poll of destinations within the UK

The spike in staycations has been attributed to the natural beauty of Great Britain as more Britons opt for travel destinations in their own backyard. And now, a recent survey posed to parents with children under 16 by Freedom to Go has revealed the top ten ‘must see’ destinations for families in the UK. At the top of the list, and knocking Cornwall down to third place, is the Lake District.

In the last year, around 53 million people chose to spend their holiday within Great Britain compared to the 39 million who went abroad. But what is it about staycations that make them so desirable? As the survey would reveal it isn’t all about the beautiful convenience of the locations, but rather the allure and charm of the sites themselves.

TV presenter and outdoor enthusiast, Michaela Strachan, said: “You might think that people holiday here because they don’t want the hassle of getting on a plane or a ferry, so it’s interesting to hear that our beautiful scenery is the main attraction”

There are hundreds of stunning areas in the UK that are on the doorstep of many families with lots of activities that will keep them entertained” she concluded.

The full Top 10 ‘must see’ destinations are as follows:

Lake District (60.80 per cent)
Stonehenge (54.80 per cent)
Cornwall (49.80 per cent)
Windsor Castle (46.40 per cent)
Loch Ness (38.30 per cent)
Snowdonia (38.10 per cent)
The Peak District (32.80 per cent)
The White Cliffs of Dover (31.90 per cent)
Roman Baths of Bath (30.40 per cent)
Hadrian’s Wall (30.30 per cent)

A leisure holiday in your caravan is fun and cost effective, as over 80 per cent of parents would agree. The freedom offered with a caravan allows for those on holiday to enjoy the outdoors and experience all of the activities that would otherwise be missed. Kids are also offered the opportunity to engage in more outdoor activities, which continues to remain a concern for many parents surveyed.

In previous research, Freedom to Go reported that 63 per cent of children have not climbed a tree and 42 per cent haven’t ridden a bike or scooter outside in the last 12 months. It’s time these concerns were addressed and kids went out and enjoyed all the outdoors has to offer!

On behalf of Freedom to Go, Opinion Matters conducted The Family Staycation Research. Freedom to Go, itself, is a campaign launched by the NCC and backed by both The Caravan Club and The Camping and Caravanning Club. The intentions of the campaign have previously been covered by CaravanTimes which you can read about here.

It may be time to pack up the caravan and head out to one of these marvelous locations. Which ones will you be visiting? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
