The police seized a cut-down caravan on the road

A motorist using a makeshift trailer made from a cut-down caravan has had the vehicle seized as part of a new initiative by police in Plymouth.

The south-west city’s forces have joined together with Trading Standards, VOSA, taxi inspectors and HM Revenue and Customs to launch Operation Juggler which is designed at making roads safer in the area, the Plymouth Herald reports.

Checkpoints have been set up in the region and Trading Standards officers are in the process of checking proper documentation for any trade waste being moved. However, police were highly surprised by the sight of the makeshift trailer.

Sergeant Dave Gordon explained to the news provider: “The owner appeared quite blasé about it. Up until yesterday he was living in it, but his situation had changed and he was disposing of it. He had taken off the roof and folded in the remains, but the edges were very sharp.”

Operation Juggler was originally launched in 2010 with the aim of helping local communities.
