Durham County Council set to back plans for pub caravan park

The site in question is situated near the Bowes Museum

The scenic locale of Teesdale, to the east of the Pennines, is set to benefit from plans for the development of a new caravan park in the region.

As the Wear Valley Advertiser reports, plans for the new area, on land close to The Countryman pub in Bolam, look set to be given the thumbs up by members of Durham County Council.

At present, the establishment currently offers space for as many as five caravans. But that will change under the new plans, with the facilities set to undergo major changes to allow up to 20 caravan users to stay on the new site.

Pub owner Paul Stabler told the news provider: “I hope to encourage tourism by providing a site near to local attractions such as Bowes Museum and the railway museum at Shildon.”

Before any work can begin though, approval must be given by the council’s south and west area planning committee.

This group is set to meet today (13 December) to discuss the proposals and at least 19 letters of objection from locals who are concerned at the potential increase in traffic the plans could bring.

This disruption echoes the confusion surrounding the ‘<' . strtolower('Array') href="http://www.caravantimes.co.uk/news/industry/confusion-over-plans-to-close-aberfeldy-caravan-park-$21382067.htm">Aberfeldy Caravan Park in Scotland, where locals are continuing to debate plans to close the site down.

Update: The plans have now been approved by Durham County Council.
