Several holidaymakers have had their summer ruined after a fierce fire broke out at a caravan park in Southerness, near Dumfries.

Visitors at the Lighthouse Leisure Park looked on in horror as the blaze swept through the site destroying an indoor pool, bar and restaurant while 200 caravans were left without water and electricity.

The Daily Record reported that around 30 firefighters were called and took over four hours to tackle the blaze.

It has left a number of holidaymakers unsure whether to cut their break short including newlyweds Joanne and Paul Person, from Carlisle.

Joanne told the news provider: “I am worried that we will have to go home early because we have no electricity and the manager told us we might not have any for about a week.”

The fire follows a similar incident also in Southerness where a couple managed to escape a fire in their caravan while watching Andy Murray in the Wimbledon final.
