A warning has been made to caravanners that plan to watch live TV while in their caravans this summer.
A high turnout is expected in campsites across the country as people look to enjoy the recent warm weather, but TV Licensing has warned people to make sure they are licensed to watch live TV, or risk prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000.
Touring caravans are covered if you have a licence for your residential home, however, TV Licensing has said that static caravans, mobile homes and moveable chalets will only be covered by a residential home licence if the TV in the main residence is not being used at the same time.
In these cases you are expected to fill in a declaration form to say that live TV won’t be watched in your main residence while you are watching it from your caravan.
The decision to raise awareness has come after figures released by The Camping and Caravanning Club showed a 25% increase in scheduled arrivals for UK Club Sites and Camping in the Forest Sites during May this year.
This trend is expected to continue, with the sunny weather encouraging more people to take a holiday in the UK.
The Camping and Caravanning Club’s Technical Manager, Ian Hewlett said: “Many holidaymakers use televisions in their camping units so it’s important for the Club to highlight the importance of purchasing a TV Licence.
“We urge all campers and caravanners to check the licensing requirements if they plan to watch television whilst they’re away.”
