Camping in the Forest’s Cobleland Site has come in for some high praise after being bestowed with a prestigious accolade.

The facility has been heralded as a conservation leader after receiving a Special Distinction Award as part of the famous David Bellamy Conservation Award Scheme for 2012/13.

Cobleland, located in Queen Elizabeth Forest Park in Stirlingshire, was nominated for the accolade for the good work it has done to highlight the plight of the red squirrel in the UK.

Bob Hill, sites directors, said: “It’s important we continue to conserve Britain’s wildlife and countryside and we hope it encourages more holidaymakers to enjoy our Camping in the Forest Sites this season.”

According to the Forestry Commission, there is only an estimated 140,000 red squirrels left around the country and the organisation wants to promote the re-population of these animals.

More good work by sites such as Cobleland is hoped to result in more red squirrels in the forests around the UK.
