VIDEO: How to overtake while towing a caravan

Neil Greentree explains the best way to overtake safely when towing a caravan

by Suzette Rabout

Overtaking is a simple enough task when driving a car, but when towing a caravan it can become tricky.

Instead of the standard length of a car, attaching a caravan to the back means your unit can increase by double the length or more.

It can be hard to judge distance with an extended length behind you, and other vehicle’s intentions need to be taken into consideration before overtaking.

In this video, we hit the road with Neil Greentree from Greentrees Adventure store as he demonstrates the best way to overtake whilst towing in a safe manner so you can make good progress along a motorway or dual carriageaway.

Neil points out the importance of giving yourself and others space when towing, and why you should make sure you give yourself enough time to overtake as it can take two or three times as long as it would take you in a car alone.
