Tornado turns New Zealand family’s caravan upside-down

Another upside-down caravan, showing that these incidents are not as rare as you might think

There was caravan-based carnage in the town of Cromwell in Central Otage, New Zealand after a mini-tornado left one family’s tourer in a topsy-turvey condition.

In the hands of less than careful owners caravans can often be tipped over.

However local resident Glen Christiansen, his wife and three young children could blame nature after their caravan was flipped over.

They had planned to enjoy a quiet night in last week, when trouble breezed their way.

As the Otago Daily Times reports, it was around 6.15pm last Friday when his partner Sarah Christiansen noticed what appeared to be a “swirling wind” heading towards their home.

Taking refuge with his family in the nearby laundry, the family waited while the mini-storm passed through their country estate.

It was only afterwards that they discovered the true extent of the destruction left in its wake, with the family’s twin-axle caravan seemingly lifted into the air, flipped up and dropped on its roof.

And while no one was hurt in the bizarre incident, the family admitted that it may have some trouble explaining the situation to their insurance company!
