The Bolt On Touring Home For The Mercedes X Class

The good, the bad or just ugly? Does this concept work....

By William Coleman
Over the past few years the pick up truck has become a lot more popular amongst Uk residents. Having looked into them a little bit more I can see why they are becoming the next big vehicle purchase, especially amongst the touring community. Mercedes, who are clearly trying to capitalize on the recent trend. The company have released a bolt on mobile home so you can make the most of your Mercedes X-Class, and I am not sure how I feel about it.
At first glance the bolt on home does not seem too bad but the more you look at it the more it looks a little bit out of place. Usually you see bolt on homes attached to a flatbed truck its sitting on someone’s lawn or in a film set in the 70s. So to see Mercedes creating one is quite something.

The Mercedes X-Class will not get you too much change from £30,000. So why would you want to then attach a cabin like touring home to the back of it? Yes it will be cheaper than buying a touring motorhome or a towing caravan, which the Mercedes X-Class is perfect for, but it in my humble opinion it really look a bit….ugly. I can’t give too much of a review or real technical spec as I have not yet had a chance to get my hands on this touring home convert/attachment.

Although it may not look the most appealing it is actually quite a good practical touring home, I mean it is Mercedes after all. It may be a little on the snug side but it is perfect for the quick get away or a long day out. I can see this being perfect for a long fishing trip or a weekend stay at a motoring event. There are actually 2 beds on board, 1 of which is 150cm wide and the second can be made up from tree cosey seats. So not bad for friends or couples.

Mercedes and Tischer have actually made quite a good little touring home. It comes with a 2 meter standing space and three burner hob. So once you’ve done your meal prep you can use the fold away wash basin. There is also a swiveling toilet and shower. It’s actually impressive how much they have been able to cram into this nifty home. Although its a bit snug.
At this point in time it is just a concept so we have no price info for you. As soon as we know more we will update you.
