A survey has shown that 81 per cent of people said that the thought of going on a camping or caravanning holiday cheers them up.

Taking to the road and staycationing in the great outdoors is becoming more popular and it seems making people more cheerful.

Caravanners and campers are also planning on heading to somewhere “new” for their annual holiday, and the same survey found that 81 per cent of people are broadening their horizons for the 2013 summer and plan to holiday in a different location to their usual.

A massive 84 per cent of people are wanting to explore more of the UK, but it was not all positive news as 63 per cent of respondents felt that the UK has nothing to look forward to in the summer.

The Camping and Caravanning Club has been doing its bit to change that by celebrating National Camping and Caravanning Week last week (27 May to 2 June) by holding events at a number of its sites around the country, including a showcase event on 31 May at the club’s Hertford site.

Robert Louden, director general of the club, said: “There are so many ‘Perks’ to experience when out camping – they can be as small as spotting a rare animal when out walking or popping down to the farmers’ market to taste some local produce; either way, camping has something for everyone.”
