A restaurant owner from Staffordshire was left stunned when a chunk of frozen waste came crashing through her caravan.
Caroline Gray explained that the brown and yellow ice block falling from a passing overhead plane sounded like an “explosion” when it came smashing through the roof of her static caravan’s bathroom at 7am on Saturday (March 2nd).
She explained that her initial thought was that her home was being burgled but on further investigation she found an 18-inch hole in the roof and another of the same size going through the floor.
Ms Gray told the Daily Mirror: “It’s incredible to think it nearly landed in our toilet when that’s where it came from in a plane above us.”
Ice balls falling from passing jets is not an unusual occurrence and Belper News reported a similar incident happening in Duffield, Derbyshire, when a giant chunk smashed into the front of the home of an old couple.
A spokesman from the Civil Aviation Authority said that the Staffordshire incident was probably due to a leak on the plane and these incidents happen “now and then”.
