There’s no need to look abroad for a top-rated pitch, as new data from Pitchup.com reveals UK campsites are winning over British holidaymakers more than any European destination.
The UK comes out on top
Analysis of reviews left by UK-based customers this year shows British camping, glamping and caravan sites averaging 9.1 out of 10. That puts the UK ahead of the Netherlands (8.8), France (8.7), Italy (8.3), Germany (8.2), Spain (8.1) and Ireland (8.1), a full point clear of both Spain and Ireland.
The UK’s top-rated sites
The findings follow Pitchup.com’s 2025 Gold Awards, based on nearly 200,000 customer reviews. To qualify, sites needed an average rating of at least 8 out of 10 from a minimum of 20 verified reviews, and nine sites achieved a perfect score:
- The Spinney Wild Camping, North East England
- Owl Valley Glamping, South West England
- The Wee Caravan Park, Scotland
- Cosmos Camping, West Wales
- Little Nash Woods Camping, South East England
- Wimbleball Holidays, South West England
- Little Thornham Holidays, South West England
- South Ford Farm Camping, South West England
- Tydd Gote Caravan Site, East Anglia
The Spinney Wild Camping took the overall top spot, with a flawless 10 out of 10 across 32 reviews.
Why home comforts win out
Dan Yates, founder of Pitchup.com, said: “It’s no great surprise to us that Brits rate home comforts so highly – our data shows UK holidaymakers are just as happy, if not happier, staying closer to home than heading abroad. Sites like The Spinney Wild Camping show exactly why: a warm welcome, a simple pitch and a proper night’s sleep go a long way.”
