Nissan teases next generation Qashqai with cryptic towcar photo

Is this the face of SUVs in 2014?

by Chris Jefferies
As one of the biggest success stories in the SUV market over the past few years, the new Nissan Qashqai has quite the weight of expectation on its wheel arches.
Despite its ungainly name, this reliable towcar contender has won over thousands of Brits since its launch back in 2007, becoming one of the UK’s best-selling 4x4s.
Now, Nissan has started building up anticipation around the next generation Qashqai, which is due to arrive in dealerships in the next few months.
Our first glimpse comes in the form of a cryptic photo (above), which Nissan says “takes the crossover sector into a new dimension, raising standards for everyone and lighting the way for countless new adventures”.
Whilst we at CaravanTimes would try to avoid such evocative rhetoric, this teasing picture does give us some tantalising clues.
For starters, the curvy lines and beefier bonnet profile recall the ever-popular X-Trail, which got a refresh in September at the Frankfurt motor show.
Whether this means higher kerbweights or heftier engine options, we’ll have to wait and see as all other details are being kept under wraps for now, but keep checking back with CaravanTimes for all the latest towcar news.
UPDATE: So it seems we didn’t have to wait very long at all for full details of the new Nissan Qashqai.
