Yorkshire has beaten 2011 league toppers Lancashire to be crowned as the top caravanning county in the UK, according to figures released by the National Caravan Council (NCC).
Caravan enthusiasts residing in Yorkshire bought just under 2,000 new tourers last year, over 30% more than 2012 runner’s up Lancashire, and around 50% more than Staffordshire in third.
Cheshire, Lincolnshire and Hampshire came fourth fifth and sixth, with ownership of new caravans amounting to 770, 700 and 684 respectively.
Nottinghamshire secured seventh position boasting a slightly higher figure of 664 than Derbyshire in eighth with 616.
Essex (590) and Worcestershire (470) complete the list of the ten caravanning counties in Britain.
The Top Ten was complied by data from the NCC owned Caravan Registration & Identification Scheme (CriS), which is a national register of all new and used touring caravans built in the UK since 1992.
It has been a good year for caravanning, with the warm summer delivering a sharp increase in the demand for used motorhomes and caravans, and campsite bookings are up for the October half term.
The NCC Motorhome & Caravan Show at the NEC Birmingham this week looks to continue the optimistic outlook, with an estimated £2.5million worth of new 2014 models set to be unveiled.
