A favourite coastal path in Dorset which is popular with walkers has had to be diverted following a major landslide around St Oswald’s Bay.
The incident happened overnight on Monday 29 April a short distance away from the Durdle Door Caravan Park which many people may plan to visit over the upcoming bank holiday.
Visitors are being told to heed the advice of warning signs and stay away from the cliff edge, after 80 to 100 metres of cliff collapsed just 400 yards away from the well trodden path.
Particular care is urged around tourist hotspots, such as Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door.
Nic Lonsdale, duty watch manager at Portland Coastguard, told the Dorset Echo: “We are urging people to observe the warning signs and stay away from the edge. Part of the path has completely gone and we need people to read the warning signs.”
Durdle Door is a highly popular lookout point for visitors and is one of a number of limestone arches on the Jurassic Coast of England.
