French campers park up on illicit Dundee site

Dundee and the surrounding areas are very popular with caravanners

A group of French tourists have parked up their caravans on an illicit site in Dundee, despite the land belonging to the council.

About 15 tourers set up home at Riverside Drive earlier this month (9 June) but were met by local authority officers and police to discuss their intentions.

It follows a series of unofficial traveller groups making campsites on land that is owned by the council, but the French caravanners explained that they were merely passing through while holidaying in Scotland.

One member of the group told the Evening Telegraph: “This is our first time in Scotland. We are here for a month. Dundee is our first stop, and we are going to Aberdeen.

“We are staying here until Sunday. The police said it’s OK to stay until then. We have been visiting the town and shopping.”

The Evening Telegraph recently reported that another illicit travellers’ camp had been set up next to the Ice Arena with council members notifying the police and landowners.
