Couple fights Rutland caravan park plan rejection

Rutland Water is just one of the key attractions in the area

A husband and wife team from Edith West in the East Midlands are continuing to push for their plans to develop a caravan park in the Manton area of the region to be approved by the local authorities.

This comes despite the Rutland County Council’s development and licensing committee refusing to green light the project following a meeting last Tuesday (December 11th).

Under the plans Leon and Rebecca Bissonnet had hoped the new site would have offered 20 pitches for touring caravans along with additional space for up to 20 campers.

But councillors rejected the plans, amid concerns that the development would result in a major increase in the number of large vehicles using the local roads and the risk they would pose to pedestrians.

Speaking to the Rutland & Stanford Mercury, Mr Bissonnet said: “It’s a shame we couldn’t find a way forward at this point.

“Hopefully we will be able to find a suitable compromise to carry it forward because we have invested time and money into this venture.”

In contrast, recent plans for a new caravan park in Durham were backed by local authorities.
