Some childhood nostalgia for Prince Charles and Princess Anne

Providing a fascinating insight into the early life of the royal family, going back 250 years, this exhibition is a must-see

Caravans play a major role in British culture, so much so that they are beloved by the royal family themselves – or so it seems – as a new exhibition at Buckingham Palace reveals.

CaravanTimes recently wrote about the campervan shaped toy chest presented to Prince George on his first birthday, and we now know that this was the latest in a legacy of caravan-themed toys enjoyed by the royals.

On display at the comprehensive childhood exhibition is a miniature caravan, presented to Prince Charles and Princess Anne by the Caravan Club over 50 years ago.

Other items on display include Prince George’s christening gown – a replica of the delicate satin and lace gown made for Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter in 1841. The oldest item in the collection is a silver rattle enjoyed by the young George IV, dating from 1763.

The Royal Childhood exhibit will be open from July 26 to September 28.
