C&CC urges caravanners to eat local when on holiday

Caravanners picking up their food from local businesses can help boost the economy around the rural areas

Local food produce is being championed by The Camping and Caravanning Club with the busy holiday season fast-approaching.

The group is urging people coming to its sites during the summer months to pick up their food from local businesses, as this helps boost the economy around the rural areas which can sometimes be dominated by large chain stores.

Officials at the club are fully behind the Eat Local campaign and results of a survey have shown that the general public is echoing these sentiments.

Research by Onepoll found that 31 per cent of people regarded discovering a farmers market as seriously enhancing the camping experience, while a local pub was a key factor for 30 per cent of the respondents.

Ali Ray, food and camping expert, who has already given her backing, added: “Many of the club’s campsites are located in areas which have highly regarded local delicacies and I would urge campers to try them for themselves.”
