Caravan MOTs edging closer after European vote

Your caravan could be subject to extra checks in future

Caravan owners may soon need to take their mobile home in for a MOT after the European Parliament voted in favour of proposals.

The decision, which is not final, would see caravans over 750kg being subject to regular assessments that are currently in place for cars, vans and motorbikes.

Officials at The Caravan Club have condemned the latest ruling but said that they had lost “the battle, not the war”.

The Club believes that it is a flawed decision and one that is without “supporting evidence for positive road safety”. It has also gained support from a number of MEPs as well as the UK government.

Officials reassured other members that they will be fighting against this decision for months to come and even if it is brought in it will take a number of years for it to be fully implemented across Europe.

The Club also thanked members that had already shown their support by signing its online petition.
