Vintage 1929 Bentley to be put on auction for an estimated £300,000

It is important for every budding caravanner to choose a suitable vehicle to tow your caravan. Something reliable, powerful and sturdy is essential, especially when faced with rough and unforgiving terrain. Imagine, however, towing your caravan whilst sitting inside a 4 ½ litre 1929 Bentley. Once upon a time, a family’s grandfather used to take his family on various trips and excursions across the British countryside inside such a majestic vehicle.

After 30 years of lying dormant in a family home’s barn, the original owner’s grandson sought the advice of a car specialist, before putting the Bentley up for auction. Having expected the Bentley to fetch around £30,000, the family have since been left stunned following receiving an estimate of £300,000 from auctioneers, Bonhams – ten times the imagined value.

Rob Hubbard, Bonhams’ resident car specialist remains ecstatic to have discovered such a rare and valuable automobile stowed away in the family’s barn, describing the find as “the holy grail” of automobiles for collectors. Furthermore, after inspection, it seems that the Bentley remains in pristine working condition. Rob explained: “The chassis, engine, axle, gearbox, steering box numbers are all present and correct. I have been doing this job for ten years and to find a car like this fantastic. It will need to be looked at but the body and trim are in remarkable order and won’t need to be replaced.”

“You very rarely open a barn door and find something like this. You expect to see a dilapidated car but this will be back on the road without too much work,” he continued.

It will take a little bit of fixing up, a fresh coat of paint and some care and attention, but it looks like this beautiful 1929 Bentley could be on the road again very soon – perhaps ready for another family to drive into the British countryside with their caravan in tow behind them, just like this family’s grandfather had done many years ago.

What would you do with such a prize possession? Would you dare tow with such a classic car?
