A pair of French holidaymakers enjoyed a lucky escape after being robbed in strange fashion while holidaying in New Zealand.
The couple had embarked on a campervan trip near the Raglan district of the country when the incident occurred.
As TNT Magazine reports, the incident unfolded in bizarre fashion, with the travelling pair waking to the sound of the traditional New Zealand war cry, the Haka.
The situation then escalated when five men arrived on the camp site and demanded payment from the couple, claiming a toll was due for camping on the private land.
A brief struggle then ensued, with the mob attempting to pull the man from his van, all while continuing to punch and kick him.
While the couple did eventually escape serious harm, some of their possessions were taken.
Perhaps unsurprisingly the five men were described as ‘inebriated’ – a possible explantion for the man’s strange war-cry.
Speaking to the news provider, police sergeant Mata John noted that despite the incident, the country “prides itself on being a safe, family friendly place to visit”.
Caravan-related crime remains an important consideration for tourer owners, with many recent caravan thefts occuring in Britain, none however, quite as bizarre as this one.
