The owners of a five-star-rated caravan park in the scenic setting of the Cambrian Coast in Wales are celebrating a rather unique award this week, which is anything but bog-standard.

The Min-y-Don Holiday Home and Touring Park at Harlech, which is a popular spot for caravanners was named the best in the UK at the Loo of the Year Awards.

These sparkling facilities also claimed the UK Market Sector Award for best holiday park, the Wales national category award and a gold grading at a star-studded event in Solihull earlier this month.

Spread across 15 acres, the site underwent a major redevelopment back in 2008, with one of the many advancements coming with the toilet block where new toilets, showers, wash hand basins and full disabled facilities were created.

In addition to this, the site also benefitted from new laundry and dishwashing facilities along with a number of private washrooms.

The total cost of the redevelopment came to around £2 million, but it has proven to be money well spent, with the park winning rave reviews from critics and customers alike.

Commenting on the award win, park manager Sue Middleton admitted that these latest accolades were the culmination of a year of hard work for her and co-manager Richard Hodgson.

“It’s absolutely brilliant news for the park and great credit is due to Lesley and Andy Holland, who take care of the cleaning and maintenance of the toilet block,” she added.

“We believe it’s vitally important that we provide the best toilet facilities for customers and staff.”

Commenting on this latest award win, Local Assembly Member for Dwyfor Meirionnydd, Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas, congratulated the staff and urged park owners and operators across the UK to continue to strive for the highest standards in accommodation and care.

First established back in 1987, the annual Loo of the Year Awards were set up to encourage the highest standards of care when it comes public toilets.
