Burglars targeting East Riding caravan owner’s homes

Thieves in East Riding are targeting properties when residents go on holiday in their caravans

Caravan owners in the East Riding area of Yorkshire are being warned of burglars targeting their homes when they are away.

Humberside Police believes that criminals are searching the region looking for people either cleaning or packing their mobile homes on their driveways and then strike when the occupant leaves to go on holiday.

Officers stated that since January, 11 properties have been broken into when the homeowner has been away in their caravan for the weekend.

Detective inspector Joanne Roe, from Humberside Police, Serious and Acquisitive Crime Team said: “The majority of the burglaries have happened across a weekend, which is what led me to my theory. I believe homes with caravans parked outside their addresses are being watched days prior to them going on a trip in their caravan.”

Houses in places such as Howden, Elloughton, Brough, Gilberdyke are just a handful of areas that have been targeted in these crime waves.

Police have advised people heading off in their caravan to inform trusted neighbours, friends or family about the trip to ensure that someone is keeping an eye on the property while they are away.
