Bill Oddie to talk Springwatch and camping at Manchester caravan show

Bill Oddie shot to fame as part of the Goodies

He may be more commonly known for his bird-watching antics, but this January some-time Goodies star Bill Oddie will be taking a break from his Springwatch duties to attend the Manchester Caravan and Motorhome Show.

Held at Event City from 17 to 20 January, the event represents the biggest outdoor leisure show of its kind in the north of England.

And the visit of Oddie, who was born in neighbouring Rochdale, is likely to add to the clamour surrounding tickets for this event, which will feature the latest caravans and motorhomes on offer to consumers in 2013.

The 71-year-old won’t be the only television icon in attendance with Countryfile presenter John Craven also due to make an appearance at the star-studded event.

It is certainly promising to be an event to remember, with over 200 exhibitors due to attend and plenty to see and do over the course of the three-day meet.

A variety of outdoor leisure accessories will be available, while information on holiday parks, campsites and destinations is also set to be on hand for those visiting.

Children are also well catered to, with free entry for those under 16 and a special KidZone entertainment area provided.

A variety of local produce will be put up for sale as part of a special farmers’ market, while courses on how to tow a caravan and manoeuvre a motorhome will also be provided by the Caravan Club.

In addition to this, some 30 hours of free expert talks and cookery tips will be provided via a range of events held at the Manchester exhibition centre.

Organisers will be hoping this year matches the success of the 2012 show, when 31,489 visitors attended the event in an increase of 42 per cent on the previous year.

And with 85 per cent of last year’s exhibitors already signed up for the 2013 meeting, it looks likely to be a similarly unqualified success.
