Specialised Covers

The history of Specialised Covers
The Specialised Covers story began in 1978 with the chairmen, Douglas Long, wanting to find a way to keep the Ferrari he had recently purchased in a pristine condition.
The car was growing dirty due to the rare-breed pigeons he kept in the same barn as his precious new vehicle.
As a result he bought a dust sheet but was unhappy with how the ugly sheet made his sleek car look.
He decided to shape the sheet to the car, which had the added benefit of being less prone to falling off, and put red and black felt on it to give it the Ferrari look he hoped for.
He then took this cover to Ferrari owners meetings and received a variety of envious comments from friends, who all decided they wanted their own cover, which he promptly provided them with.
After this, his designs were spotted by a Ferrari dealer before finding popularity with the chairman of BMW UK who asked for a cover for a new car before its official unveiling.
All of this proved rather alarming to his wife who had been tasked with sewing the ever growing number of covers being ordered; luckily he could rope in those who worked in the numerous hairdressing salons he owned to cut out all the letters when they had nothing else to do.
The BMW cover proved popular with other car manufacturers and he was soon getting calls from companies as prestigious as Porsche.
It was here that Douglas decided he had enough potential to start a business and Specialised Covers officially began in 1981.
Since that day the company has gone from strength to strength and now make covers for a wide-range of different vehicles including helicopters, airplanes, motorbikes and caravans, all of which are still designed and manufactured, by hand, in Britain.
Caravan covers
Specialised added caravans to their list of products in 1995 and have gone on to become one of the key providers of bespoke covers in the industry.
A key benefit of their tailored caravan covers is that they fit properly and do not sag due to excess materials or flap in high winds – something that can be a problem with other covers.
When placing an order with the company you are given the option of different colours and whether you need space for a variety of different fittings.
The company also ask for the measurements of the caravan to ensure that the cover has the right fit.
Specialised Caravan Covers start from £259.00 and are made to order – with standard delivery times varying between four and five weeks.
The company also offers a more personalised approach with customised print options that allow you to put up to 200 characters on the cover. This service costs an extra £20 and Specialised is the only UK company that offers this service.
As well as providing covers for tourers they also offer a range that can be used on wheels, A-frames and motorhomes.
Another product Specialised offers is a towing protector. This costs £99.00 or can be purchased in a bundle with a caravan cover that will save you £40. This will protect against chips, insect stains and other road hazards while towing.
