Smart Construction

Smart is a timberless caravan construction method

Launched in August 2013, Smart Construction is a completely new caravan manufacturing method from the Swift Group.
This timberless process employs PURe (a type of polyurethane) instead of wood to create the structure, and each letter in the name stands for a key benefit of the construction process:

  • S: Strong
  • M: Modern
  • A: Aerodynamic
  • R: Resiliant
  • T: Thoroughly tried and tested

Swift claims that PURe is superior to wood, as it is completely impermeable to water ingress and can be engineered to precise tolerances, thus reducing the weight of the caravan by 10-14kgs.
Testing on the new Smart construction caravans has included towing at the Millbrook proving ground, as well as atmospheric tests in the Truma cold chamber, where the models were subjected to temperatures as low as -15 degrees centigrade.
The results were so conclusively encouraging that this construction process has been rolled out across all Swift, Sterling and Sprite caravans for the 2014 season.
And such is the company’s confidence in this process that it retains the Swift Group’s industry-leading ten-year water ingress warranty.
UPDATE: In February 2014, Swift Group took things one step further with the launch of ‘<' . strtolower('Array') href="/swift/smart-ht.htm">Smart HT, which is available in the new Swift Elegance and Sterling Continental. For the 2015 season Smart will be applied for all motorhomes as standard.
