With the price of petrol spiralling ever upwards, energy-efficiency is becoming more and more important for towcar buyers, so the Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer could see a rush in sales after winning a recent award.
The diesel version of this British-built towcar scooped the Green Award at this week’s Towcar of the Year awards 2011, as well as taking plenty of praise for its mid-range acceleration.
Under testing, the Astra Sports Tourer 1.7 CDTi SE ecoFlex was able to get from 30 to 60 mph while towing a caravan in an impressive 19.2 seconds, meaning it won’t take too long to get up to cruising speed on dual carriageways or motorways.
The judging panel concluded: “The Astra Sports Tourer is an excellent small estate with impressive economy and low emissions.”
Other key winners at the Towcar of the Year awards included the Land Rover Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 XS model, which was named as the winner of the 1900kg category for the second year running.
