New product development approach from Bailey looks to the future with new generation Unicorn

Team Bailey: new product development looks set to blast Bailey into the future

Bailey’s new generation Unicorn is the first to see the benefits of the company’s investment in a new approach to product development

Bailey of Bristol has always been a revolutionary brand; however, their latest move is already bringing them benefits. The company was the first and only volume manufacturer in the caravan industry to steer away from the traditional annual ‘change for change sake’ model year cycles to a more efficient ‘series-based’ product development process. This new tactic focuses on one model range at a time, which delivers meaningful, market-led upgrades for the manufacturer’s clients.

The company has invested in a new approach to its product development programme as a way of coping with the added variety and complexity of the design processes for its current and future model ranges. Thus, a new product development team, made up of staff from across the company who will work exclusively on the design of new models, has been established. The first range to reap the benefits from this new strategy will be the third generation Unicorn range.

Five new design graduates have been recruited as part of the new product development team. Furthermore, a highly respected senior design consultant with many years of industry experience has been appointed. These appointments provide Bailey with a mix of fresh and experienced employees who will undoubtedly work restlessly on creating the best possible products.

With every move, Bailey is striving to maintain its market relevance. These tactics include ensuring every aspect of the design of its caravans or motorhomes gets even more careful consideration, exploring layouts and ‘towability’, interior and exterior styling, specification levels and weights. Bailey will maintain its market-leading position, as its models are sure to remain on every new caravan buyer’s shortlist.

Nick Howard, Managing Director of Bailey of Bristol, commented, “With our leisure vehicles being used as far afield as The Outback in Australia as well as some of the hottest and coldest parts of Europe, we are delighted that we now have the extra resources to make a comprehensive range of enhancements to our new models and further improve the satisfaction of our customers – wherever they are.”

“We are really looking forward to launching the new Unicorn range so existing customers and hopefully plenty of new ones can see the results of the extra time and thought that’s gone in to them from our new development process. The Unicorn is our best-selling and most luxurious range, and we’re now hoping the third generation models will be even more popular,” Howard continued.

The next few weeks will see the release of further information in regards to details of the enhancements to the new Bailey Unicorn. This information will certainly be released before the arrival of the first display models on retailer forecourts in late August and we for one can’t wait.
