With award season having just finished we are seeing all the great accolades that have been awarded to sites all across the UK. A family run site has done something amazing work to bag an elite green award for their site.

Moss Wood have been getting youngsters involved in wildlife discoveries which has earned the site a very rare environmental award. A great pioneering step for this holiday park to keep the youth interested in nature.

This green achievement means that the park is one of just 15 elite sites to be awarded this accolade, out of around 3,000.

Bellamy was especially impressed with a hugely successful nature discovery day help this summer at the park. He also had high praise for what the site were doing, an amazing outdoor classroom where local children and holiday guests can connect with the magic of the natural world.”

The event was a great success with a large attendance of youngsters and families taking part in the nature hunt around rural Lancashire’s abundant flora and fauna. There is so much youngsters and adults can learn about the wild of the British countryside, and Moss Wood are keen on teaching.

There were loads of activities for everyone to get involved in such as expert led pond dipping in the park’s wildlife lake. Where children had a great time exploring their nets to see all sorts of critters from the water. Then there was the constructing of bird boxes and bug hotels.

Guests were also able to explore a recently opened 1.5km nature discovery trail, and a 3000 square-foot wildflower wilderness attracting honey bees and butterflies.

Environmental initiatives such as these have resulted in Moss Wood winning the David Bellamy Conservation Award at its top gold level for twenty consecutive years.

However, says the park’s Henry Wild, this year’s Special Distinction has been a source of particular pride for his family and staff:

“We’ve always tried to make Moss Wood a perfect fit to the beautiful and unspoiled countryside in which we are fortunate enough to be located,” said Henry.

“The park attracts people with a keen interest in wildlife, and we enjoy doing all we can to help both guests and the local community to be involved with our conservation work.

“For children especially, taking part in activities such as pond dipping is a fantastic way to become inspired by nature and to share in its wonderful secrets,” he added.

It’s great to see so much attention being paid to nature by parks across the UK. If you believe in climate change or not there is obvious signs of damage being done to woodlands across Britain, and the world. So every little bit of support mother nature can get is more than welcome in my books.
