Research conducted by Saga Motorhome Insurance reveals that 20 per cent of over-50s plan to visit one of the UK’s summer music festivals

Saga Motorhome Insurance has revealed poll results which show that 20 per cent of over 50’s will visit one of the UK’s summer music festivals. What is most exciting for us at CaravanTimes, however, is that a high percentage of these festivalgoers plan on camping out in their caravans and motorhomes.

Study results show that 36 per cent of those who will attend festivals plan on camping out overnight. Of those who plan on camping out overnight, 10 per cent plan on utilising their motorhomes for lodging, while 14 per cent will stay in their trusty caravans.

The figures clearly reveal that more seasoned rockers remain active members of the music community. They also have a consistency with the growing trend of staycations that has overtaken the country.

Chief executive of Saga Motorhome Insurance, Roger Ramsden, explained, “The staycation’s popularity has rocketed in recent years, as has the variety of breaks on offer nationwide. With festival season upon us, what better way is there to enjoy the British summertime than by heading to one of these events?”

“It shouldn’t be a surprise that so many festival-goers are over 50, as a large number of bands playing are in the same age group,” Ramsden granted.

Finally, he briefly described the benefits of having a more durable means of lodging than a tent, “Heading to Glastonbury or Reading and staying in a motorhome [or a caravan] is a wholly sensible way to soak up the atmosphere. At the very least, you’ll avoid a waterclogged tent if the skies open.”

How about you, caravanners? Is anyone heading to one of the several music festivals this summer? Will you take your caravan as well?
