Often referred to as The Heart of England, the West Midlands is best known for Shakespeare's birthplace of Stratford upon Avon. Of course not everything revolves around the connection with one of Britain's finest playwrights, and the area is home to an array of stunning English heritage sites.

The aforementioned town of Stratford-upon-Avon is known worldwide for its connection to England's most famous wordsmith. Each year millions of visitors descend on the town to see the five properties preserved in and around the home of the Bard. It also serves as a great base for visits to nearby Warwick and Kenilworth Castles.

While in the region, discover the extensive canal network of Birmingham which criss-crosses the urban areas, before kicking back to soak up the sights and sounds of Britain's second largest city. For chocoholics, take a tour of the Cadbury factory just south of the city.

Fans of English history will enjoy visiting the Black Country, once known as the 'Cradle of the Industrial Revolution'. The now defunct factories remain as towering monuments to this fascinating phase of British history. The Black Country Living Museum will help new visitors learn the rich history of the region.
