Stretching from the Pennines in the north to the Welsh Mountains in the south, this vibrant area boasts two of the jewels of the UK in Liverpool and Manchester.
There are few places in Britain that can match the beauty of the Lake District. Each year over 12 million visitors come to experience its famous lakes, mountains, and picturesque villages. And if English history is your thing, Chester is undoubtedly one of the UK's most beautiful cities. It is also one of the best preserved, with some parts of the city walls dating back more than 2,000 years.
Of course no visit to the North West is complete without seeing the major cities of Liverpool and Manchester. Liverpool has always been known for its architecture, football, literature and music. This reputation was further enhanced when it received the accolade of European Capital of Culture 2008.
Meanwhile visitors who haven't been to Manchester for a while may no longer recognise the city. In the last decade huge construction projects have transformed the landscape of the world's first industrial city.
