Wide open countryside and expansive coastline can be found everywhere in the North East. And with thrilling activities for all the family, you can be as active or laid-back as you like.
The Durham Dales and Northumberland National Park both offer ample opportunities to go exploring in the great outdoors. Antony Gormley's Angel of the North looks out over Gateshead and is well worth a visit as one of the world's most viewed public artworks.
The beautiful Cathedral city of Durham is within striking distance of the Heritage Coast and the North Pennines is a walker's paradise. Then heading northwards you find yourself in Hadrian's Wall country in all its dramatic splendour. Northumberland has many forts and imperious looking castles - evidence of the centuries of border battles with Scotland.
And best of all, with a number of caravan parks at key points across the region you won't have to look far to find places to stay.
