An award-winning Midlands caravan dealership has been praised for the apprenticeships it is providing to young people from the local area.

Salop Leisure in Shropshire has eight apprentices currently learning on the job and Peter Greco, who works for the Caravan Industry Training Organisation, has congratulated the company on the good example it is setting.

In conjunction with Kingston Maurward College, Mr Greco is currently helping the teenagers achieve their intermediate and advanced apprenticeships in Active Leisure.

As part of their qualification, four of the trainees, Thomas Hancock and Josh Davenport, who are both 18, 17-year-old Jack Clark, and 19-year-old Dan Thompson, are working with Mr Greco as they specialise in retail and workshop procedures.

"Salop Leisure deserves great credit for taking on local young apprentices and investing in their training and qualifications," Mr Greco said.

"It will obviously benefit the company in the long run to bring through these youngsters, who are the future of the business."

"In return, these young apprentices really do appreciate the opportunity that Salop Leisure has given them."

Chairman of the 45-year-old caravan dealership, Tony Bywater, said that taking on apprentices is a great way to benefit the local economy while providing young people with skills and the business with its workers of the future.

He is encouraging other local companies in Shropshire to recruit young people from across the county in a bid to give youngsters a job opportunity and advocates learning on the job from experienced members of staff.

"Young people are our future and they will play a major role in the success of our businesses for years to come," Mr Bywater said.

Every young person has a skill that is waiting to be discovered, he added.

Meanwhile, not far away in north Wales, the Fifth Wheel caravan company is currently on the look-out for apprentices to begin work at its Denbighshire facility.
