Little Guy Caravans

Little Guy Caravans are based on the lightweight US travel trailer

Highly regarded American manufacturers of the definitive "teardrop trailer".

There aren't too many caravans which can be comfortably towed by a Mini or its equivalent but Little Guy Caravans promise just that.

The range is based on the lightweight US travel trailer which has space for two adults to sleep in and a basic kitchen at the rear. As such, they form perhaps the smallest vehicles that can be classified as a caravan.

Construction

The company's range of micro caravans have rugged and tough exteriors with alloy wheels and mudguards, built on an Al-Ko axle with a tubular steel frame. The walls and floor are built from plywood laminated with fibreglass. What this means is these caravans are so light they don't require any braking system can even be hauled around using a 500cc quadbike.

A screw operated roof vent facilitates ventilation in the sleeping compartment and the jockey wheel folds up level with the drawbar for maximum ground clearance. There are various external graphics to choose from including a sports team design, and bolt or laser graphics.

Owners will have to travel light as nominal storage comes in the form of a small roof mounted cupboard above the bed. The arched front wall makes for a comfortable leaning position once inside, but there's not much room to move around.

A rear end boot contains a shelf with a top hinged gas-strut assisted tailgate, with room for a camping stove and storage underneath can hold basic cooking equipment.

European Dealer

Little Guy Caravans are distributed in Europe by Camp Runner, who also make their own range of micro trailers, including the recently launched Splash - a unique design from Slovakia.

Optional extras offered with these trailers include an all-weather cover (£290), a bicycle rack (£125), a roof rack (£210), a double-wall super-tent awning (£575) and a wheel lock (£95).

The complete 2011 Little Guy range, available through Camp Runner, is as follows:

Model Weight RRP
Buzzz 255kg £3,950
Cargo 400kg £4,430
Splash 230kg £4,250
Splash DLX 260kg £4,700
Mediterane 470kg £5,230
Alpina 440kg £5,500
