Once upon a time if you were searching for your local caravan park, a quick flick through the Thomson Local would give you a list of numbers. The Internet has effectively replaced this system altogether, yet Thomson still find their expertise proves useful when it comes to searches.

The local business search company commissioned a study to look at search trends relating to the holiday and leisure industry and found a huge 448% increase in inquiries for caravan parks. The surge in the number of people searching for motorhomes was almost identical, with a 447% increase.

Naturally campsites have also proved massively more popular, with searches having gone up 244%. What is more surprising is that in the recession searches for mobile homes have also increased - by a factor of 173%.

Gary Brown is the Product and Marketing Director of Thomson Local and he was able to shed light on this. 'Over the past 12 months we have seen a steady trend in value for money searches, but the dramatic rise in popularity of the caravan is a little more surprising'.

He explained further that 'with more people choosing to holiday closer to home it's great news for local business'. His research appeared to suggest that the public will spend the Bank Holiday weekend hitting campsites and caravan parks across the country.
