The Bailey Olympus - Bailey's second Alu-Tech range
The Bailey Olympus - Bailey's second Alu-Tech range

One of the oldest caravan manufacturers in the UK, Bailey Caravans has been building tourers since 1948. Their revolutionary approach to caravan construction was most recently demonstrated with the hugely popular Bailey Pegasus range launched in 2009 putting Bailey at the forefront of caravan design and innovation.

With over 1,000 retail orders generated in the first five weeks for the Pegasus, Bailey hoped to echo its success with the introduction the Bailey Olympus marque in 2010 - built using the same groundbreaking Alu-Tech technology.

Alu Tech construction

Bailey Caravans has combated the threat of water ingress head-on by developing their pioneering "Alu-Tech" body shell construction. The technology incorporates an interlocking aluminium external framework that clamps body panels together to create an enforced shell much stronger than traditional caravan construction methods. Bailey almost halved the number of panels from nine to five, and reduced the number of fixing points and joints by 90%, further eliminating possible entry points for water ingress.

Bailey is so confident of their Alu-Tech construction they offer an industry leading 10 year body shell integrity guarantee.

Thermal capabilities

With body shells thirty per cent thicker than classic construction methods allow, the Bailey Olympus models have been awarded Grade 3 Classification of Thermal Insulation, making them suitable for year round touring.

Bailey Olympus layouts

The seven layouts are modelled on the classically constructed Bailey Pageant series. A narrow body with an overall width of 2.19m make the Bailey Olympus a good value option in the mid range tourer class, and the flat panel roof allows 1.96 metres of headroom throughout.

The entry level Olympus 462 has an MTPLM of 1,263kg with a transverse rear end washroom, mid galley kitchen and front dinette which converts into either two single berths or a comfortable double bed.

At the other end of the scale, the top of the range 4 berth twin axle Olympus 624 has an MTPLM of 1618kg with the popular fixed bed and rear end washroom configuration.

A choice of two soft furnishing schemes are available and Pear veneer furniture helps the cabin to feel light and modern. Two Heki rooflights let in plenty of natural daylight.

Caravans are constructed to concentrate a larger proportion of the weight at the centre, balancing the caravan and making it more stable both on and off the road. In addition, all models are supplied with an AL-KO ATC trailer control system, AKS Stabiliser and shock absorbers for trouble-free touring. An AL-KO secure wheel lock is an optional cost extra for added security.

The Olympus range has since been relaunched in July 2011 as the Bailey Olympus II.
